Lincolnshireman man shortlisted for Arable Adviser of the Year

Sean Sparling in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire

The shortlisted companies in the 2007 Farmers Weekly Agricultural Awards have been named this week and up for Britain’s top Arable Advisor of the Year sponsored by CROPS is Sean Sparling in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

Sparling impressed the judges with his hard work, organisational skills and attention to detail visiting all of his 21 client’s farms at least once a week. “Agronomists should look at crops once a week – there’s an awful lot that can change in a week.” he said.

Colin Myram an independent consultant and one of the judges in this category commented: “Sean’s commitment to each of his customers is exemplary. Field walking 5,600ha each week is no mean feat in itself, but he combines that with a strong commitment to make sure his growers do not spend money unnecessarily. His slot on Lincs FM shows a willingness to share his experiences and opinions with a wide audience for the good of farming”.

Over 100 farmers have entered in this year’s Awards with more than 30 businesses in the line-up reflecting the very best that British producers can offer across 12 categories.

The Awards’ aim is to recognise innovation and achievement among individual farmers as well as celebrate excellence within the industry.

In the run-up to the Awards, Farmers Weekly magazine is profiling the shortlisted farms from each category every week, with a focus on the three finalists competing for each award.

Winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 31 October.
